(5) Traditional Ironworks & Rurban MiningRunning Time : 29minutes Publication Year(JFY) : 2008
Iron and gold have influenced our history, society, industry and modern lifestyle more than any other metals. This installment of the environmental series Fragile examines our past and future from the viewpoint of metals. The first half documents the way Japanese are able to use traditional ironworks to educate children and adults about how precious our resources are and how our ancestors made steel from their environment. The second half focuses on gold and how valuable resources are gained from everyday discarded electronics. This is known as “urban mining” and may be the most important vein of gold today.
